It is not mandatory to purchase a team T-shirt, but the Relay organisers do recommend that each team should be clearly identifiable on the track.

To this end, team members are encouraged to purchase their very own

Magnificent Official Quality Designer Commemorative T-Shirt of the Team.

Purchases can be made by visiting the 'Shop' tab above.

Virtual Relay

The arrangements for particpation in the Virtual Relay are extremely simple: you just do what you please wherever you are for as long as you like! But please let us know where and whay time you pariticpated, and if you want to appear in the gallery for the event, send us a photo.

At the coque

Normally the team captain will propose a running time and publish a draft Running Order on the tab above or by email. The running time expected from each team member depends on the final composition of the team. Generally, running time is divided into 30 minute slots with team members being able to choose 1 or 2 slots. This arrangement has been generally satisiactory and it is proposed to pursued it again this time. However, the precise track time available per member will not be known until the teams are complete.

Getting there

The relay takes place at the Coque, otherwise known as the Centre National Sportif et Culturel.

Base camp

Each Relay team is allocated its own space in the stands. The precise location will only be determined after all the teams have been registered.

Look out for the team banner:

The team organisers aim to maintain a permanent presence at Base Camp throughout the relay. See the 'Running Order' tab for details. Friends, family and supporters as well as team members are welcome at Base Camp.

On the track

Checking in

The entrance to the Coque Arena is past the swimming-pool entrance. You should arrive in time to change and get to Base Camp in Bloc E in order to :

  1. Collect your team bracelet, if you haven't already done so.
  2. Collect your refreshment vouchers, if you haven't already done so.
  3. Collect your Magnificent Official Quality Designer Commemorative T-Shirt of the Team, if you haven't done so already.
  4. Have your photo taken for posterity.
  5. Get any last minute information or instructions.
  6. Let us know you're present.

Running gear

You must wear clean sports shoes or trainers on the track.

You are also strongly encouraged to wear your Magnificent Official Quality Designer Commemorative T-Shirt of the Team.

It becomes quite hot on the track, and people have been most comfortable in the past in shorts or gym gear, even when walking.

Access to the track

There are two important rules concerning access to the track:

  1. only team members are allowed on the track, and
  2. only one team member is allowed on the track at any one time.

These rules are strictly enforced by teams of volunteers.

To gain access to the track, two items are necessary

  1. A team bracelet. Each team member has his or her own bracelet.
  2. A team bib ("dossard"), indicating the team name and number. The bib is worn by the team member who is actually on the track at any given moment, and passed on from member to member as they join and leave the track.

Bracelets

The team bracelet is just a numbered paper bracelet of the sort they put on the wrists of hospital patients.

You can collect your bracelet by checking in at base camp when you arrive, or at the opening ceremenony if you are attending that. In either case, you will be given an envelope containing your bracelet and the refreshment vouchers to which you are entitled.

If by any chance, and for whatever reason, no team organiser is present at base camp when you arrive, there will be a box or some other receptacle containing the envelopes with the bracelets and the vouchers. Just look for the envelope with your name on it.

Joining the relay

In order to facilitate the handover, and particularly since not everybody knows everybody else, each team member should be wearing his or her Magnificent Official Quality Designer Commemorative T-Shirt of the Team.

To join the relay:

  1. Check in at base camp, get your bracelet and your photo taken.
  2. Take the stairs to the handover point or "Point Relais" as shown on the Coque map. Your bracelet may be checked before you are allowed down onto the track.
  3. Look for your predecessor who will be wearing the team bib or "dossard"
  4. Wait until your predecessor stops to hand over the "dossard". Put it on and off you go (as slowly or quickly as you like :-).
  5. If you are walking you should use the inner lanes of the track, and if you are running you should use the outer lanes.

Leaving the relay

Remember, the objective is to have 1 person (only) from each team on the track for the entire 24 hour period of the relay.

This means that you must stay on the track long enough to pass the bib on to the next person in your team. Please be ready to allow yourself extra time in case your replacement is late, or unable to find you.

Once you see your replacement, leave the track at the handover point, pass on the bib, and you are free.

The last runner should return the "dossard" to Base Camp.

Refreshments

Together with your team bracelet, you will also receive a voucher for water and a cereal bar. These are distributed by the handover point on the track.

Photos

We will take one photo of each team member as he or she leaves to join the relay, and one while he or she is actually on the track. We wil also take team photos at the Opening and Closing parades. Attendance at these parades is not mandatory, but all team members are of course welcome. You can also make any other photo arrangements you like.

Photos will be published on this web site afterwards, unless anybody objects.

Events and Activities

A number of important events and activities take place before, during, and after the relay, notably the Opening Parade with its the Survior and Caregiver Tour , the extremely moving Candle Ceremony, and the Closing Parade at 8pm on the last day.

There is no obligation for team members to attend these events, but they are fun, and they do provide a nice opportunity to socialise and take group photos.

Team organisers

In the event of any problems, please contact the duty organisers at Base Camp.
